Rosacea
Rosacea is often refer to as 'acne rosacea' but it is not the same as acne. Rosacea is characterized by red and inflamed skin, particularly on cheeks, nose forehead and chin. It may begin as tendency to blush or flush easily ad progresses to persistent redness. Small blood vessels and tiny pimples may also occur. It is most common in women between age 30-50 and in some cases associate with menopause.
The exact cause of rosacea is unknown, but it is believed that to be due to disorder of the blood vessels, which become over sensitive to stimulation. Heat and sunlight may aggravate it as they stimulate the release of chemicals that encourage the blood vessels to enlarge. Rosacea is not caused by excessive consumption of alcohol, but alcohol can aggravated the conditions as it caused blood vessels to dilate. Sever cases are sometimes accompanied by burning of the eyes.
Treatment For Rosacea.
Treatments for rosacea include oral and topical antibiotics, good sun protection practices and avoiding extreme temperature and spicy foods. Cortisone creams may reduce the redness of rosacea, however they must be used under close supervision of a dermatologist and of no longer than 2 weeks as they can thin the skin. Red wines, oranges and caffeine may also aggravate rosacea, as do unsuitable facial product.
It is important to remember that rosacea can get worse without treatment. Consult your doctor or dermatologist if you suspect you have rosacea.
